Stained Glass Abstract 300DPI.JPG

My “Stained Glass Abstract” has a story and I would like to share it with you.

After many hours of hooking work, I decided that this piece was destined for the floor in front of my kitchen sink, as it had not become what I had envisioned.  The original concept got lost early into the hooking process when I ran out of the color of scrap wool fabric I was using.  I took it in to our art association for our “ArtTalk” night for critique. I have a good friend there who has an eye for art and he "twisted" my arm and told me it needed to be entered in an art show.  I drug my feet about it but eventually did enter my first juried show.  I was ecstatic to discover that it received 1st place in that show and then Judge’s Choice at the Union City Arts Festival Juried Show in October 2014.  From there I entered it into the 116th Annual Exhibition by Richmond Area Artists at Richmond Art Museum (RAM).  It was awarded Honorable Mention in Amateur Division in November 2014.  I then entered it into the 10th Annual Hoosier Women's Artists Competition at the Indiana State House.  In April 2017, I was 1 of 34 honorees accepted out of 208 entries from across the state.  It hung in State Treasurer Kelly Mitchell's office for a year.  Then it went on to the Hann Museum of Indiana Art in Lafayette, IN until July 2018.  From there it traveled on to win Grand Champion in the Mooreland Fair Open Show in August 2018.  It was published in Ten Thousand Loops II by; Judy Taylor 2021.  So my little “kitchen” rug began it’s humble journey from the encouragement of a friend and became a celebrity in its own right.
