Biblical Rugs
Revelation
This rug was hooked to be a part of our church's sermon series on based on the book "The Story" by; Randy Frazee. It is a book about taking each Bible story more indepth to really study that story. We found 10 different artists in our congregation to paint their favorite Bible story to show how they interpreted it. Our pastors said they would like me to hook something. Everything I really wanted to hook was either taken by someone else or I was not going to have time to hook the piece before it was to be displayed during the sermon. We gave the painters 30" x 30" canvas', I knew that was going to take sometime to hook. So to make sure that I would have enought time to have some thing hooked, I said I will just do Revelation, because that would give me a few months to work on it. "Yeah, what was I thinking?"

I read the book of Revelation more than once and then I also listened to it while I was hooking the piece so that I could make the picture like I was hearing it. I hope that it looks somewhat dream like beccause that is the way that John discribed what he was seeing was in a dream. This piece is actully a little bigger than the other artists canvas' becuase of all of the detail I need to go bigger. This piece measures 34" x 36". It still was not big enough to hook all of the details, so I embelished with beads, jewlery find from antique shops etc. It was an amazing journy to create this rug-wall hanging. It was a journy with God, because of all the pieces that I found and the odd places that I found some of them. So please look at this piece carefully and then read the book of Revelation to see if I captured the important parts.

I started this piece the 2nd week of January and completed it the 1st Saturday in May. It was due in church for the sermon on Sunday. I worked 8-10 hours every day and I also had a few other people helping on other parts of the piece. Our sound board leader is an Electrical Engineer and he programed a thunder sound chip for me and also worked out the timeing in the lights that I sewed down into the lightening. We added a motion detector so that when some one moves near the piece lightening flashes and the thunder rolls. The total hours in just hooking the project is 600, at least 8 hours in dying the wool. Then their is all of the time to find the embelishments, sewing them on and then all of the finish work. I hope you enjoy the piece as much as I enjoyed making it. I do have plans to make more of these rugs, but they just take time in planning them and then hooking. Since I have the ending, the next rug will be the begining. I have ideas for it, but now is to start putting it on linen.
